Interview with friend of LGBT Asylum News Erwin de Leon, a Filipino PhD student married to his same-sex partner for 12 years. He shares his immigration story.
Students and couples who plan to marry are two groups that are commonly left out of the media’s immigration coverage. Couples in which one partner is not American navigate a lengthy and complex system of visas and applications to gain legal status. If they are a same-sex couple, immigration can be substantially harder, due to provisions of the Defense of Marriage Act. de Leon is facing both obstacles.
