Georges Kanuma was a Burundian born LGBTI activist and openly gay man. He founded the Association for the Respect of Homosexual Rights - Association pour le Respect et les Droits des Homosexuels ARDHO, in 2003, Burundi's only gay advocacy group. By the time of his death he was MSM Project Manager with the National Association for HIV Positive and AIDS patients (ANSS) in Burundi.
Georges was a prominent LGBTI activist and health rights advocate in Burundi and has appeared in numerous conferences and in the media.
More details of his death and funeral will be communicated later.
We wish to join the family, friend and relatives of Georges Kanuwa and the entire LGBTI community in Burundi in mourning this admirable and hardworking comrade. He will be surely missed.
